Basket Weaving Inspirations Lead Local Panel Discussions

The Asheville Art Museum will be hosting a symposium and panel discussion on the unique traditions, contemporary issues and future challenges of Appalachian, Cherokee and Low Country Basketry, Friday, November 4 - Sunday, November 6, 2011.

Featuring:

- Betty Dupree, former director of the Qualla Arts & Crafts Mutual, Inc.

- M. Anna Fariello, Director of the Craft Revival Project at Western Carolina University and author of Cherokee Basketry: From the Hands of our Elders

- Sarah Hill, author of Weaving New Worlds: Southeastern Cherokee Women and Their Basketry

- Dale Rosengarten, author of Row Upon Row: Sweet Grass Baskets of the South Carolina Low Country

- Henrietta Snype, Low Country basket maker

- Cynthia W. Taylor, Appalachian basket maker and co-author of Appalachian White Oak Basketmaking: Handing Down the Basket

- Aaron Yakim, Appalachian basket maker
